What to Expect

FCSSC is excited to team up with 4-time Ironman, Shayne Hodgson (Big Bike Giveaway, Centennial Wheelers, London Cycle) for a NEW cycling offering for members.

The 3 primary goals of this confidence building program are to: 1) learn how to safely cycle with others, 2) learn how to cycle from within London to beyond city limits, and 3) how to build confidence cycling on the road.

This NEW cycling confidence building program, is intended for those wishing to learn to ride, or learn to ride with friends. All skill levels welcome. Riders will meet each Sunday morning at one of our YMCA starting locations and go over the morning's ride plan. The ride goals will be 60 min (week 1), 90 min (week 2), 120 min (week 3) and 50km or approx 180 min on week 4.

Week 1 will of course begin with friendly welcomes and introductions, an initial assessment of each riders cycling knowledge and experience. Shayne will touch on equipment orientation, and basic safety guidelines before beginning the scheduled ride.

Each following week, Shayne will re-address the essentials, assess and adjust as needed for individual needs and gradually build the pack's confidence with a goal of being able to confidently pursue a 50km ride on week 4.

During rides, Shayne will always guide/lead the pack on the ride allowing others to draft behind at their own pace. Group checkpoints will be integrated frequently to keep the pack together, ensure bikes are functioning smoothly and everyone is having fun. FCSSC builds community and we promise no one will be left behind!

Riders must have a road bike or hybrid bike. Bike rental may be possible, at an additional cost, for those without a bike of their own. Please inquire BEFORE registering!
