Hiking Series

Sport Info

Spirit of the Program This hike series is intended for individuals of average fitness. It's intended to be an introduction to a variety of local hiking trails in and around the city. A light, steady pace will be kept with 1-2 short breaks along the way (as required).

Class Size

A minimum of 6 participants is required to run the program.

Participants are recommended to bring a small backpack carrying a hat, their own water bottle, bug spray (if needed). Hiking boots are recommended for all Spring Hikes due to instability of the ground and slippery conditions. Participants should wear layers, including long sleeves, fleece and a breathable waterproof layer. Walking poles are encouraged and welcomed. If conditions become wintery, icers (traction cleats) are recommended. Camera's are optional. A face mask and hand sanitizer are recommended.

Participant Information All paid participants will receive detailed information about the program after registration closes.
Age & Waivers All participants MUST be 19 years of age or older, no exceptions. All participants must comply with FCSSC's Safe Return to Play Guidelines for the safety of all members, staff, and facility/program providers.
All participants MUST sign a waiver before participating, no exceptions. Signing the waiver on-line is super easy, just follow the steps during registration & checkout.

                 Hiking Rules

1) Check the weather, dress appropriately, tell someone where you are going and for how long, and have some fun!

2) Recommended Equipment: Participants are required to bring their own personal equipment/gear if they should feel the need, such as poles, hat and sunglasses and a rain jacket. Proper footwear is recommended (firm soled hiker) as hikes will take place on uneven ground and may include puddles and mud. We also strongly recommend bringing sunscreen and bug spray along with 1L of drinking water in a back pack on every trek.

3) Dogs: IF all registered members are comfortable with dogs, and IF trails allow dogs, they are welcome to join ON LEASH. Canine participation is not guaranteed at time of registration. No dogs allowed on the first hike (this is when participant canine comfort levels will be determined.)

FCSSC's Spring 2021 hiking series takes place on some great marked and unmarked trails in and around the Forest City. (***Note: trail locations may change within 48 hours depending on conditions observed. All changes will be communicated as early as possible).

Trails we will explore in the Spring hike series include:

  • Meadowlily
  • Medway Valley
  • Westminster Ponds
  • Fanshawe Conservation Area

Please note that personal transportation is required as not all trails are accessible by public transportation. We may explore trails that are up to 30 minutes outside of the city's core.

***Location information is as known at time of posting.  Locations are subject to change at any time. Additional locations may be added to accommodate demand.**
