Not Your Average Book Club

Fall is the best time of year to join NOT YOUR AVERAGE BOOK CLUB! Perfect for anyone who loves to read, hang out with other fun readers & sip on a hot drink on a cold night! This Book club will have four (4) book chats and on the fifth date you'll all participate in a super-fun activity that featured in the book.

Fall 2017 Session Details:

What you need to know

Our Facilitator -  Is a long time FCSSC member, Stephanie Lindner.  Stephanie is a wife and new mom, English teacher, and voracious reader. Did we mention she is also...FANTASTICLY FUN?!

Location - Each book chat will take place at Fire-Roasted Coffee Cafe at the corner of King St. and Talbot St.

The Book - Because some readers love used paperbacks, some like to crack the spine of a brand new book, and others like to read on a Kindle, participants must get their own copy of the book.

Reading - Each book chat will have chapter completion goals. Discussion about those chapters will be skillfully facilitated by Steph. A participant information email will be sent out once registration closes in January and will include the week one reading.

THE BOOK

The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood is the chosen book this fall.

Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead. She may leave the home of the Commander and his wife once a day to walk to food markets whose signs are now pictures instead of words because women are no longer allowed to read. She must lie on her back once a month and pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, because in an age of declining births, Offred and the other Handmaids are valued only if their ovaries are viable. Offred can remember the days before, when she lived and made love with her husband Luke; when she played with and protected her daughter; when she had a job, money of her own, and access to knowledge. But all of that is gone now.... Funny, unexpected, horrifying, and altogether convincing, The Handmaid's Tale is at once scathing satire, dire warning, andliterary tour de force.
